New director Marco Gobbetti, former head at Givenchy, has chosen British designer Phoebe Philo to take over the French brand's creative direction. Philo is credited with making the Chloé brand cool again, and is also known for her work with Stella McCartney. She said she's looking forward to getting into the studio and dreaming up designs that will “ energise the brand and clients' enthusiasm."
Phoebe Philo biography:
- Born in Paris in 1973, Phoebe grew up and studies fashion in London. Less than a year after graduating from Central Saint Martins in 1996, she moved to Paris and was appointed Assistant Stylist at Chloé.
- In 2001, Phoebe was appointed Artistic Director at Chloé. By late 2005, Chloé had multiplied its boutiques, contracts and outlets around the world: 30 in Asia, 4 in the Middle East, 13 in North America, 1 in South America, 18 in Europe and 2 in Russia.
- In 2002, Chloé launched its first line of bags, which was successful to the tune of 40% of company turnover.
- 2003 saw the launch of the iconic Chloé Paddington bag.
- During Phoebe's 4 and a half years as Artistic Director at Chloé, she oversaw the development of scents, swimwear, shoes and accessories (luggage, handbags and belts).
- In 2004 Phoebe won British Designer of the Year and also gave birth to her first child.
- In the same year, she was named Woman of the Year by The Observer.
- In 2006, Phoebe quit Chloé to spend more time with her family.
