A new survey by Phillips Sensual Massagers claims that the average couple enjoys the best sex four years and two months into their relationship. We asked GMTV relationships expert SIMONE BIENNE for her views.

 - Does sex really get better with time?
Do you think these findings overturn preconceived ideas that sex in long-term relationships gets boring?

Yes, definitely. Couples often enjoy the best sex over time, when they are more confident with their bodies and with one another and are not afraid to suggest new things. Couples can definitely enjoy the best sex years into a relationship or marriage. It is a myth that sex lives will take care of themselves - like everything else, you need to nourish every part of your relationship, including your sex lives.

Why does it take four years to have good sex?
After four years sex becomes multi-dimensional - and that means not focusing on just the physical aspect. Essentially it means being turned on mentally, emotionally and physically as we become more relaxed with one another and our emotional connection is much stronger. We tend to know our partner better outside the bedroom and are more secure and relaxed in their company, so can let ourselves go and have fun without feeling self-conscious. The best sex is when you’re free and let yourself go!
