If you want soft skin all year round, you need to exfoliate to renew your skin, keep it in good health and make it radiant. Here's our guide to exfoliating.
Why exfoliate?
Exfoliation rids the skin of dead cells which accumulate on the surface and can prevent skin from breathing. In a nutshell: our skin’s cells multiply, die and renew themselves.
Exfoliating speeds up this natural process by stimulating cellular regeneration and micro-circulation of blood at the surface, so your skin becomes supple and soft again.

What exfoliating products to use?

There's a wide range of exfoliating products for all tastes and all skin types: gels, creams and scrubs with exfoliating particles.
- For the face, go for gentle textures with biological exfoliants (salicylic acid), apricot kernel powder, jojoba grains, micro-pearls of plant silica or mineral citrine.
- For the body, use firmer exfoliants with natural loofah fibres or sea salt crystals.
Step-by-step exfoliation
Squeeze a small amount of exfoliating product into your hand and apply it onto clean and damp skin with light circular massages, without rubbing, so as not to stretch skin tissues.
- On your face, work from the centre outwards, then down your neck and décolleté. Rinse with warm water using an exfoliating glove or a large cotton wool pad.
- On your body, go from your shoulders down to your feet, scrubbing your back, chest (gently!), stomach, thighs, bottom and legs. Rinse under a hot shower and finish with a jet of cool water to tone up.
How often?
It depends on your skin type. For dry and sensitive skin, once a fortnight is enough; exfoliate normal skin once a week, and exfoliate oily skin twice a week.
Important: Always moisturise after exfoliating to restore your skin’s protective film.
Aid the peeling process by using a loofah or luffa (a plant sponge containing extracts from tropical climbing plants) or a kassa (a black crepe glove used in hammams).
