Give your feet some serious TLC before you bare them to the world in slinky summer sandals.
First things first, blitz any traces of polish with remover, cut and file your nails.
Soak your feet to soften them while you relax with a book or eye mask! Try Foot Therapy’s fragranced minty mineral soak, £4.99 from probeautystore.co.uk, or make your own with a basin of hot water, liquid soap and 30ml bicarbonate of soda or 120ml vinegar. Push your cuticles back with a cuticle stick while they’re soft.
Draw out impurities with The Body Shop’s clay-based Peppermint Foot Mask, £8 from thebodyshop.co.uk. If you’ve never used a foot mask, it’s the perfect excuse to put your feet up.
The skin on our feet needs exfoliating too. Massage dried feet with a scrub (body exfoliators are perfect) and rinse. While your feet are still wet, use a pumice stone to buff away dry skin from your heels and balls of your feet. Try this handy Pumice Foot File, £5.87 from boots.co.uk.
Attack the hard skin on your heels with Champneys Intensive Cracked Heel Balm, £8 from Sainsbury's or www.champneys.co.uk. Nail guru Marian Newman recommends smothering feet morning and night in this stuff, which has more than double the amount of the super moisturising ingredient urea.
Dry your feet and slather them in your usual body moisturiser or an intensive foot moisturiser, massaging the cream in from toe to ankle. Before you apply polish, clean your nails with cotton wool and varnish remover to remove any traces of cream.
