Tried & Tested: Skinfix Brightening Eye Cream

After a bank holiday weekend you'd expect everyone to return to work bright-eyed and bushy tailed but in reality everyone is struggling to get over three consecutive days of drinking, yawning every five minutes and using their lunch hour to take a sneaky nap. Thankfully, Skinfix's Brightening Eye Cream is on hand with its Healthy Skin Lipid Complex to help tackle tired eyes, dark circles, puffiness and even fine lines. We put it to the test...

I hate to sound ungrateful but genetics completely failed me when it came to youthful eyes. Tired, dehydrated peepers kinda run in the family which is why my so called laughter lines are fast maturing into permanent crow's feet. Hello 26, you're a sweet little joy-giver aren't cha. I like to think I've always taken good care of my skin but the delicate eye area can always do with some extra TLC.

I also tend to suffer with sensitivity around my eyes (what can I say, I'm truly blessed), so the more natural the product is, the better. The Skinfix Brightening Eye Cream works to intensely nourish the skin around the eyes while revitalising tired, dark and puffy peepers. The lightweight formula is non-greasy and contains high-performing natural ingredients such as red seaweed - great for plumping your pores with moisture and giving it that dreamy dewy complexion. After using it morning and night for just under a month, my eyes seem slightly brighter and more rested than normal. You hear that crow's feet? Be afraid, be very afraid.

As I get older, yes - I just reached the grand old age of 25 and my quarter life crisis is in full swing - I've noticed that the area around my eyes is looking older and duller every time I look in the mirror. All the concealer in the world can't stop the dark veins from making an appearance and my foundation is starting to crease in my fine lines. I recently learnt that 'crepey eyelids' were a thing...as if we needed another thing to feel self-conscious about!

Skinfix products are all natural with the brand being known for their eczema creams and soothing formulas the Brightening Eye Cream is ideal for those with sensitive skin who may be a little nervous about using creams so close to their eyes. The texture of the cream is super lightweight and absorbs quickly so can be used as part of your morning skincare routine without having to wait forever for everything to sink in before applying your makeup. After using the cream regularly I noticed that the area around my eyes was brighter and plumper so I'm not quite the walking zombie I once was. I'm just praying it can help keep the deeper wrinkles at bay for a little longer.

I'm one of those awful humans who forgoes a rigorous under-eye routine in favour of Benefit's best concealer, but this girl's thirties are approaching faster than you can say 'you're SO old'. Don't get me wrong, I've dabbled with eye creams in my time - mostly Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Eye - but more often than not, favour an extra five seconds of shut-eye over applying it to my lids. So it's safe to say I was dubious about the results of Skinfix's Brightening Eye Cream.

But I'm happy to report I was proved wrong. You literally have no excuse not to care for your under-eye skin when Skinfix makes it so easy. A dot of the product smoothed under your eyes twice daily will take years off, keeping the fine lines firmly hidden and protected from the elements, which is especially necessary as a resident of pollution-ridden London. The product isn't too heavy and it's free from all the nasty ingredients many skincare ranges rely on so it's perfect for sensitive types.

They say you should be using an eye cream as soon as you hit your twenties. I KNOW. With all the late nights, fun having, heart breaking and career progressing that takes place in this decade, something's gotta give. And more often than not, the factor which is easily forgotten amidst everything else, is skin care. More specifically the delicate eye area. But as sod's law would have it, this is the area we need to focus on most, because ageing.

My under eye bags are the proof of my fun, permanently sitting proud and purple beneath my eyes like medals of honour, but these bags aren't Prada oh no, they're Primark and I need rid NOW, hence my eagerness to try out Skinfix's Brightening Eye Cream. I noticed a real difference in the brightness of my bags, and although fine lines aren't yet an issue for me (touch wood) I definitely noticed a difference in the appearance of the skin around my eyes - and I'd like to keep it that way. It looked brighter, less swollen and most importantly less purple. Anything that makes it look like I've had my precious eight hours is a winner in my book.

I don't mean to start this week's review on a real bum note, but YOUTH DOESN'T LAST FOREVER, YOU GUYS. We can't get up at six in the morning and still have that bouncing youthfulness that we did when we were ten. When we're tired, boy can you tell. And real talk: we're tired all. Thuh. Time.

Unfortunately these baggies aren't going to dispose of themselves. And these aren't some small, cute Chanel totes that hang elegantly underneath my peepers - these are industrial black bin liners, the kind used in gross public bins or that murderers use when disposing of body parts. And heavy duty baggies require heavy duty baggy cream. And so God bless Skinfix, with its lightweight feel and its mix of vitamins and seaweed and all the good, natural things that our eyes need to look normal again. And hey - good news gluten intollies - this eye cream contains no gluten, so you can use it and you won't get bloaty eyelids! (I mean, that's why its gluten free... right?)

They say the eyes are the boobs of the face, so we've got to take good care and treat them real fine. This eye cream is what you need to do just that.

We will be giving 30 Brightening Eye Creams from Skinfix away this week on Experts Club.
