Before becoming TV's best-known lawyer, Calista Flockhart cut her teeth in the theatre, developing the acting and comedy skills which would lead her to success in Ally McBeal. Born in Illinois, she studied drama before graduating to Broadway and taking roles in 'The Glass Menagerie' and 'Sophistry'. Her film career began with Robert Redford's 'Quiz Show' and 'The birdcage', opposite Robin Williams, after which she returned to the theatre. The producers of Ally McBeal first noticed her on Broadway and after an audition in LA in 1997, she was given the lead. Careful to cultivate other projects alongside the hit TV series, she appeared in 'Things you can Tell Just by Looking at Her' in 2000 and 'The Last Shot' in 2004. She met Harrison Ford in 2001 and the pair now have a child.
