| Biography | Published by flower105 | Celine Dion is undeniably a singing heavyweight. From Canada, to France via the UK and back to the USA, she has sold over 150 million albums worldwide.
Quebecois, she grew up in Charlemagne, near Montreal in a family of musicians. The youngest of 15 musical Dions, she started singing at five years old, before composing a French-language song 'Ce N’était Qu’un Rêve' at 12, with her mother. Her dream became reality in 1981, when her tape arrived on the desk of future husband René Angelil, the producer who launched her into the Quebec music industry.
After conquering Canada with her first two albums, recorded in both French and English, Celine took on France with her single 'D’amour et D’amitié'. She went on to represent Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, performing in front of more than 600 million viewers.
The US sat up and took notice after her performance on the soundtrack to the Disney film 'Beauty and the Beast' and she took the opportunity to record her first album entirely in English. After great success in the French-speaking world, she brought out two more English albums ('Falling Into You' and 'Let’s Talk About Love'), before hitting the big time with her rendition of 'My Heart Will Go On' for the film 'Titanic'.
After taking two years off to start a family, her English comeback album in 2002 'A New Day Has Come' was swiftly followed by a fifth in French and a long-running show in Las Vegas. |
