Biography - Diana Ross |  Published by jerrryk | Diana Ross, diva and undisputed Queen of Motown, was born (Diana Earle) in Detroit, 1944. At fifteen she formed vocal group, the 'Primettes' and the following year they were signed to Motown Records, changing their name to 'The Supremes' (later 'Diana Ross and The Supremes'). Over the subsequent eight years they scored a whopping twelve number one hits, the last being 'Someday We'll Be Together'. In 1969 Diana left to launch a solo career and, the following year had her first number one with 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'. She went on to release a string of albums including 'Touch Me in the Morning (1973), 'Diana Ross' (1976), 'The Boss' (1979), 'Diana' (1980), 'Why Do Fools Fall in Love' (1981), 'Silk Electric' (1982), 'Swept Away' (1984) and 'Gift of Love' (2000). Diana also had screen sucess during the '70s with the Billy Holiday biography 'Lady Sings the Blues' (1972), 'Mahogony' (1975) and 'the Wiz' (1978). The biggest hit of Diana Ross' career was 'Endless Love' (1980), her second duet with Marvin Gaye. |
