| Biography | Published by praline155 | Country singer, Shania Twain was born Eilleen Regina Edwards in Windsor, Canada, 1965. Her mother remarried a native Ojibwa indian when she was six, and so, legally she became half native.
Twain began to write songs from an early age, singing afterhours in bars and at thirteen appeared on the 'Tommy Hunter Show' (1965). Tragedy struck at 22, when her parents were killed in a car accident. She became guardian to her younger sister and two half brothers, putting her musical career on hold, to care for her family.
In 1991 Eileen changed her name to Shania, which is Ojibwa for 'I'M on my way'. She then signed with Mercury Nashville and released her first album 'Shania Twain' (1993). That same year she wed music producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange (Def Leppard, Brian Adams), with whom she would work on her future albums. The release of 'The Woman in Me' (1997) gave Shania international fame, breaking sales records and winning her numerous awards. It was followed by 'Come on Over' (1997), 'Up' (2002), and her 'Greatest Hits' (2004). |
