| Biography | Published by nikkip | Kiefer Sutherland is the son of canadian actress, Shirley Douglas and legend, Donald Sutherland. He was born in London in 1966, and raised by his mother in Toronto. Bitten by the acting bug at fifteen, he appeared in his first film, 'Max Dugan Returns', alongside his father in 1983. The following year, he landed his first major role, in Daniel Petrie's, 'The Bay Boy', and won the Genie Award for Best Actor. Soon afterwards, Sutherland moved to LA and became part of the original 'brat pack'. International success came as a result of his part as the distinctly unpleasant Ace Merrill in 'Stand by Me' (1986) and his acting career took off. Over the ensuing years, he would be seen in a wide range of films, playing everything from vampire to cowboy: 'The Lost Boys' (1987), 'Young Guns I & II' (1989/90), 'Flatliners' (1990), 'Twin Peaks' (1992), 'A Few Good Men' (1992), 'The Vanishing' (1993), and 'The Three Musketeers' (1993). Kiefer was married for two years to Camelia Kath, with whom he has a daughter, Sarah Jude. They divorced in 1990, and he then fell for Julia Roberts, who he met on the set of 'Flatliners'. The couple were due to be married in 1991, but Roberts left for Europe with Kiefer's brat pack buddy, Jason Patric. After filming 'The Cowboy Way' (1994), Kiefer quit Hollywood to try his hand on the rodeo circuit. He returned in 1996 with a new wife, the canadian model, Kelly Winn. After starring in a few more films, he picked up his cowboy hat and retured to rodeo, winning in Pheonix and Alburquerque. Recently, Kiefer Sutherland has seen huge success as Jack Baur, in the hit TV drama '24' (2001). The part earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor after the first series. |
