James Patrick Caviezel born in 1968 and grew up in a close knit Catholic family. As a youngster his two main interests were basketball and Christianity.

Caviezel took lots of bit-parts in films before receiving acclaim as idealist Private Witt, in 'TheThin Red Line' (1998). He gained further recognition when he played Jannifer Lopez's love interest in 'Angel Eyes' (2001). Caviezel's strong catholic beliefs became known in Hollywood when he refused to do any love scenes with Ashley Judd on the set of 'High Crimes' (2002).

Consequently, he was approached by Mel Gibson, and cast in the role of Jesus for the controversial adaptation of the crucifixion, 'The Passion of Christ' (2004).
