| Biography | Published by joanna1978 | Cher, alias Cherilyne Sarkasian Lapierre, made her music debut in 1965 with husband and producer, Sonny Bono.
They released several hit songs including 'I got you Babe' and 'The Beat Goes on' . Her first solo album, 'All I Really Want To Do' came out in 1966. She also co produced the TV show 'Sonny and Cher' with her husband, and her fourth album, 'Cher' went platinum.
When she split from Sonny, Cher decided to persue a career in comedy. Her films include 'Mask' (1985), 'Witches of Eastwick' (1987), and 'Tea with Mussolini' (1999). She won an Oscar for her part as Rachel Flax in 'Mermaids' (1990). Cher now juggles a career in music and film, and has released three more albums, the most famous being 'Believe' (1999). The single alone sold 37 million singles and was played by DJs in clubs worldwide. Consequently Cher holds the record as the oldest female artist with a number 1 hit, her last album was called 'Living proof'.
