Eastwood made his break in 1964, with the spaghetti western 'A Fist Full of Dollars', this was immediately followed by 'For a Few Dollars More' (1965) and the hugely popular 'The Good, The Bad And the Ugly' in 1966. From then on Eastwood never looked back, and has played some brilliant roles along the way. Early hits include 'Where Eagles Dare' (1968) and 'Kelly's Heroes' (1970).
One of Eastwood's signature roles, is that of 'Dirty Harry' (1971), and it has spawned generations of films in the genre of loose-cannon cops, which we still see today. Four more Dirty Harry films followed over the next twenty years, with varying degrees of success.
In 1992 he put his cowboy hat back on for 'Unforgiven', and showed himself to a new generation, winning his first Oscar as a director. Since then, Eastwood has become known for his trade mark use of shadow in his films, including 'The Bridges of Madison County' (1995), 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' (1997), and 'Mystic River' (2003).
Despite the fact that his acting career has been formulated on violent films, he is clear in his hatred of the act, and shows this through its consequences. |
