Who wouldn't want Dr Ross to soothe away their aches and pains? George Clooney first found fame in 'ER', before setting hearts racing on the big screen.

Clooney was born in Lexington, Kentucky and decided early on to follow in his talk show host father's footsteps, before changing his plans and heading to university to study journalism on a baseball scholarship. Fortunately for women the world over, a professional career eluded him, and in 1987 he took his first steps to TV stardom in a low-budget sitcom, which eventually lead to 'ER'.

In 1996 he took his first film role, alongside Quentin Tarantino in 'Dusk Till Dawn'. He tried the Batman costume for size a year later in 'Batman and Robin', before filming 'The Peacemaker' in the same year.

Dr Ross eventually left 'ER' to allow Clooney to concentrate on film projects, such as Steven Soderbergh's 'Out of Sight' with Jennifer Lopez, which was followed by 'The Thin Red Line', 'O Brother Where Art Thou?' and 'The Perfect Storm'.

His position as a Hollywood heavyweight was confirmed in 2001, when Soderbergh offered him the role of Danny Ocean, in Ocean's Eleven alongside an all-star cast including Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. In 2002 he directed his first film, 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind', before shooting 'Solaris'.

'Oceans' Twelve' came out in 2004.
