Previously known as Puff Daddy, Sean Combs grew up in Harlem, New York. After studying in Washington, he went into the entertainment industry with a job as a talent scout for Uptown Entertainment, where he discovered artists Jodeci and Mary J.Blige in 1991. Two years later, he started his own label, Bad Boy Entertainment, with clients such as Faith Evans and the Notorious B.I.G, but it wasn't until 1997 that he released his own album, 'No Way Out'. The hit single 'I'll be Missing You' was a hommage to the recently murdered Biggy Smalls, a duet with his widow, Faith Evans, using a sample from the Police track 'Every Breath You Take'.
His second album came out two year later, featuring the cream of late nineties RnB artists, Kelly Price, Jay-Z, redman and Busta Rhymes. The biggets hit from the album was 'Satisfy You', with R-Kelly, which shot Combs into the fame stratosphere, as RnB royalty. His ill-fated relationship with Jennifer Lopez propelled him even further, despite a trial for possession of firearms following a shooting in 1999 and he now has his own clothing line. |
