Born into a modest background in 1972, his mother was a teacher and his father a social worker in Berkeley, California. As a boy, he filmed a commercial for a well-known fast food restaurant, which lead to his 1981 role in 'The Dark End of the Street'.
He met Matt Damon at Harvard, whilst juggling a role in a US sitcom alongside his studies, and the pair began a longterm friendship. In 1993 he filmed 4 comedies with Kevin Smith, including 'Dazed and Confused', before writing the script for 'Good Will Hunting' with future co-star Matt Damon in 1997. The film became a modern classic and lead to roles in 'Shakespeare in Love' ; 'Armaggedon', with Bruce Willis and 'Pearl Harbour'.
He fell for Jennifer Lopez while filming the ill-fated 'Gigli' and narrowly escaped becoming Mr. Lopez in 2004. 'The Sum of all Fears' and 'The Third Wheel' were both shot in 2002, before he took on the combined force of Batman, Superman and Spiderman in 2003's 'Daredevil'. |
