| Biography | Published by judyric | Russell Crowe started 2004 on the poster for 'Master and Commander', a film for which he had to overcome his lifelong fear of water. After 'La Confidential', 'Gladiator' and 'A Beautiful Mind', the Kiwi actor-director has more than demonstrated the breadth of his talents.
He was born into a film-making family and took his first acting role at the age of six in 'Spyforce' and Australian television series, before returning to New Zealand to study music. This was not his calling however, so he began looking for cinema roles. After being noticed by Sharon Stone, he took a role in 'The Quick and The Dead', which would launch his Hollywood career. He went on to take a leading role in 'LA Confidential' , but it would be his appearence as Maximus in 'Gladiator', which would really make his name.
The same year, he met Meg Ryan on the set of 'Proof of Life' and began a short affair, after which he film 'A Beautiful Mind', which eventually won an Oscar. |
