She excelled at school in Pennsylvania, but chose to start a modelling career after graduating. Her first film appearence was in 1980, in Woody Allen's 'Stardust Memories'. After a decade of bit parts, she was noticed by producers in 1990, acting opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in 'Total Recall'. Two years later, she won the role of Catherine Tremell in 'Basic Instinct' and a new star was born.
