| Biography | Published by johnnyd | Born in 1971, Winona Ryder spent her childhood in California as an ugly ducking, thanks to her slim figure and androgynous looks. She has certainly had the last laugh however, with a successful film career, which began in 1988 with a role in Tim Burton's 'Beetle Juice'. Two years later, she appeared in another Burton film, 'Edward Scissorhands', opposite real-life love Johnny Depp. Her career ups and downs have included 'Dracula' by Francis Ford Coppola, 'Mermaids', Scorsese's 'The Age of Innocence' and 'Alien Resurrection' in 1997. She has also played opposite Richard Gere in 'Autumn in New York', but spent a period out of the limelight following her December 2001 arrest for shoplifting. |
