| Biography |  Published by sea58 | Antonio Banderas burst onto our screens with the sign of Zorro in 1998, following a distinguished career in Spanish-language films.
Born in Malaga, he was well on track to becoming one of Spain's finest professional footballers until an accident put an end to his dreams. He turned to acting, with a place at the School for Performing Arts in Malaga and joined Spain National Theatre comapny at 21. His break into cinema came in 1982, when Pedro Almodovar cast him in 'Labyrinth of Passion', followed by a string of other projects, which won him fame in his home country.
the American onslaught began in 1991, with a part in 'In Bed with Madonna' and the following year he acted alongside Tom Hanks in 'Philadelphia'. An even bigger break came in 1995 when he found himself working with Madonna once more on 'Evita', which propelled him into another Hollywood rank altogether. 'The Mask of Zorro' made him a household name, but he showed us his acting talents in 'Frida' and 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico'.
He is married to Melanie Griffith and the couple have a daughter, Stella. |
