| Biography | Published by juckson | Janet Damita Jo Jackson was born on 16th May in Indiana, the youngest in a family of nine children. She took her first steps on stage at the age of seven, when she accompanied her older brothers and sisters in the Jackson five, before taking a few television acting parts during her adolescence.
She decided to turn to music and after two albums which went almost unnoticed by the general public, her father found her a new manager, in the shape of John MacCain. Under his direction, she released the album 'Control', to almost immediate acclaim. Her songs quickly became hits, with her second album 'Rhythm Nation 1814' also making its mark on the charts. Seven of her albums have been in the Top 5, a feat that even her brother Micheal never accomplished.
In the late eighties and early nineties, Janet's songs were everywhere - 'The Best Things in Life are Free' topped the charts, and her album 'Janet' sold 7 million copies. In 1995, she collaborated with her older brother for the first time on 'Scream', before releasing 'Velvet Rope', which did not sell as well as her previous efforts, provoking a long period of depression as she went through her divorce.
In 2004, she released a comeback album ' Damita Jo', but success was blighted by her 'accidental costume malfunction' on stage with Justin Timberlake, which showed her right breast to millions of television viewers. Puritanical America was shocked and Janet was forced to apologise. . |
