The latest British music sensation the Artic Monkeys won the top prize at the NME Awards. British music bible New Musical Express crowned the Arctic Monkeys on kings of British rock on Thursday in London, as they won Best British Group, Best New Group and Best Song for I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor. The Sheffield group has enjoyed huge chart success with their first two singles in the British charts and their first album was the biggest seller in British history, selling more than 360,000 copies in one week. The Kaiser Chiefs were the winners of Best Album, while Franz Ferdinand earned the title of Best Concert and The Strokes picking up the gong for Best International Band. Oasis won the prize for Best Video for The Importance of Being Idle. Live8 organiser, Bob Geldof, was named Man of the Year and was accompanied by his two stylish daughters, Pixie and Peaches. |
