| The group Alice in Chains is planning to return to the music scene next summer. The news was confirmed by the group's guitarist, Jerry Cantrell, to MTV. Cantrell, Mike Inez and Sean Kinney will perform together for the first time since singer, Layne Staley, died in April, 2002. Cantrell explained, "We feel confident that we will have a good time and that it's something that will live up to the same level. We'd like to go out and play for the people that supported us and love the music as much as we have all these years. We want to celebrate what we did and the memory of our friend." He added, "We have played with some [singers] who can actually bring it and add their own thing to it without being a Layne clone."
The remaining members of Alice in Chains have continually refused offers to participate in the television show Rock Star, where another group in search of a singer, INXS, found their new member. Alice in Chains was one of the most important rock groups in the 1980s, reportedly the inspiration behind Nirvana and Pearl Jam, among others.
