British singer-songwriter James Blunt has pulled off what Robbie and Oasis couldn't do and hit the top spot on the US singles chart, making him the first English performer to have a number one single in the US in 9 years. Blunt, who was awarded the title of Best British Artist at last month's Brit Awards, has topped the singles list with his song, You're Beautiful. The last British artist to have the number one song in the US was Elton John, with Candle in the Wind/Something in the Way You Look Tonight in 1997, recorded after the sudden death of his friend, Diana, Princess of Wales. James Blunt's album is currently at number 5 on the US sales charts, and has already sold more than 6 million copies world-wide. |
