| Cuban singer Gloria Estefan is set to play Connie Francis, the singer who topped the charts in the 50s and 60s with songs like Where the Boys Are and Who's Sorry Now. The film will follow the highs and lows of the 67 year-old singer's life, touching on her sexual assault in a hotel room in 1974. Estefan spoke to the New York Daily News about her upcoming role: "There's a lot of similarities, especially in her voice and mine. We had a very similar upbringing. The Italian and the Cuban, all the Latin cultures have a lot of things in common." Estefan starred in the film Music of the Heart in 1999, along with Meryl Streep and Angela Bassett and is famous for a string of hits in the eighties and nineties. |
