Italian actress Monica Bellucci is set to play politician Sonia Gandhi on the silver screen. The actress, who was recently a judge at the Cannes Film Festival, has agreed to work with filmmaker Jagmohan Mundhra to play fomer Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's daughter-in-law. Bellucci (The Passion of the Christ, The Matrix Reloaded, Irreversible) will begin working on the film soon, which will be shot on location in London, Italy and India. The biographical movie will recount the story of the life of Sonia Gandhi, who was born in Italy. In 1968 she returned to India, eventually marrying Rajiv Gandhi, the son the the country's Prime Minister. In 1984, her famous mother-in-law was assasinated and her husband was killed in a suicide bombing in 1991. She is now Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, after having turned down the post of
Prime Mnister in 2004. |
