Paramount Pictures has shelved the film Ripley's Believe It or Not, which was to be directed by Tim Burton. Burton will now be directing Sweeney Todd, an adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical, which will be produced by Stephen Spielberg's DreamWorks Pictures. Johnny Depp is also said to have joined the cast. The production of Ripley's Believe It or Not was to begin in November with Jim Carrey in the title role, but Paramount has pushed back the start of the project for a year, to review the film's budget. Burton and Carrey were also planning to make significant changes to the script, which would have increased the cost of making the film. |
