Singer and actress Cher is speaking out on behalf of American soldiers on active service. According to Etonline, the star will stand and speak before the House Armed Services Subcommittee in Washington on Thursday in support of Operation Helmet -- an organization which seeks to provide helmet upgrades to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. She will be accompanied by the organisation's founder, Dr. Bob Meaders, who have already donated more than $100,000 to the cause, will outline the benefits of improving the helmets used by the military, which are currently designed to protect troops primarily against bullets and not bomb blasts. Operation Helmet is dedicated to providing helmet upgrade kits free of charge. So far, the group has sent over 7,000 upgrade kits to troops. |
