German leaders were monitoring Madonna's performance in their country, after images of burning crucifixes, were thought to violate religious tolerance laws. Following the show and the investigation, German authorities have decided not to bring charges against the singer, despite branding her performance vulgar. Madonna is said to have stayed within her artistic freedom rights. Johannes Mocken spoke on behalf of German authorities, saying, "We are not going to open an inquiry against Madonna. The show was extremely provocative but not punishable." Madonna performed in Germany on August 20th, filling the Dusseldorf LTU Arena with 45,000 fans for the concert. |
