Madonna was very emotional during her appearance on Oprah as she defended her adoption of David Banda. The 48-year-old star blasted critics and groups who 'manipulated' the boy's father Yohane Banda and suggested Madonna was taking little David away from his family. When Madonna first visited David's orphanage the child was severely ill with pneumonia and they couldn't afford the drugs he needed. The star was told his father and family hadn't visited once since he was placed in the orphanage. Madonna met with Yohane Banda and an interpreter and 'looked into his eyes' as he told her he was happy for her to take his child and give him a good life, because he couldn't care for him and was sure he would have to bury him. Madonna obtained permission to get David treated with a bronchial dilator and antibiotics. He had previously survived malaria and TB but his lungs were filled with fluid. Madonna said the press had manipulated and twisted the story beyond belief. She also said her children Lourdes and Rocco have accepted David and love him like a brother already. |
