A top Kazakh writer has nominated Borat actor Sacha Baron Cohen for a national award for 'popularising' Kazakhstan.
Despite angering Kazakh politicians and public figures for his comedy portrayal of the Central Asian country in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit of Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, there has been a recent change of heart in the interest of tourism! Hotel searches have rocketed by 300% since the film, and interest in Kazakhstan is at an all-time high.
Sapabek Asip-uly nominated Baron Cohen for the annual award of the Kazakh Club of Art Patrons, according to reports, and has also slammed politicians for having no sense of humour!
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said earlier this week that Borat has helped make Kazakhstan better known in the West and he also invited Cohen to visit the country. |
