David and Victoria Beckham are moving to the US with their three sons after David signed a reputed £128 million deal with Californian club LA Galaxy.
In an official statement, David said that after considering 'several options' in Britain and Europe, he has signed a contract with the Californian club. Rumours of a move first began circulating after Victoria was spotted house-hunting in LA, where close friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have a house. Becks also runs a soccer academy in LA.
While David is thought to have wanted to sign for London club to continue playing Premiership football after an up-and-down spell at Real Madrid, his wife is said to have orchestrated the move to the US. Victoria has plans for promoting their global Brand Beckham to a wider audience, and has also met with American film and television producers to discuss various projects.
David told a US TV show that he wanted to make the move across the Atlantic before he gets too old to play at the highest level. "It's the right time for us to do it," said the 31-year-old midfielder. "I don't want to go out to America when I'M 34 years old with people turning round and saying, “Well he's only going there to get the money.”"' Of course...
Becks is set to quadruple his current salary, while the move has delighted his numerous sponsors, who will be able to capitalise even further on his marketing value, even towards the end of his career. Real Madrid currently earn some £1.3million a year from replica shirt sales and image rights. |
