Actress Angelina Jolie was in Washington yesterday to speak about the plight of orphans. The star went to the American capital for the opening of the Global Action for Children organisation. Jolie took the opportunity to ask President George W. Bush to invest more money into the education systems of underdeveloped countries. Jolie said, "This is a happy day because it is not often enough that these children are represented in this town." Global Action for Children hopes that the Bush administration will give an additional $2.5 million each year to benefit orphans from other countries. Jolie explained that such orphans are often forced into slavery or prostitution. "Our government has the power to choose which path these children are going to take," she said. "We know the consequences of our inaction." |
