Elijah Wood to play Iggy Pop

Elijah Wood will play punk rocker Iggy Pop on the silver screen.

Wood, who is best known for his role as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings films, has landed the role of Iggy in the biopic of his life and the project has been given the green light.

Entitled The Passenger, the film will tell the story of the legendary singer, beginning with his early days with the Stooges. Filming is set to begin before the end of this year, and the film should be in cinemas by summer 2008.
