Paris spends first night behind bars

Heiress Paris Hilton has spent her first night behind bars.

The 26-year-old star entered a detention centre in California on Sunday at 11:30. She will be serving a 45-day sentence at the facility.

The actress and singer, who could be released in 23 days for good behaviour, turned herself in to the sheriff the same night she walked the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards.

Hilton was sentenced after being found guilty of violating her probation by driving on a suspended license.
