Paris Hilton has revealed she was discharged from prison because she was suffering from claustrophobia.
The hotel heiress developed the condition as well as panic attacks after being placed in solitary confinement in a tiny cell on the special needs wing of a California jail.
Paris - who spent a total of 23 days in prison after being let out early for good behaviour and overcrowding - told People magazine: "Thank God I'M free!
I was basically in the foetal position, in hysterics.
"The doctors were observing me while I was there. They explained to Sheriff Lee Baca that they thought I was having severe anxiety, panic attacks, claustrophobia.
"All of the inmates were very supportive. There were girls next to me. We could talk through the vents and they were just really sweet."
The 26-year-old socialite was released from Lynwood's Century Regional Detention Facility after just five days to serve the rest of her sentence on house arrest after the sheriff deemed her medically unfit to remain in jail.
However, she was sent back to prison by the Superior Court judge who originally sentenced Paris who declared she was well enough to complete her 45-day jail term.
'The Simple Life' star insists the best thing about being released was seeing her mother, Kathy, again.
She said: "Just being able to hug my mom felt so great, and I really needed it 'cause I haven't had a hug in a long time." |
