Ryan Phillippe only likes making "serious" movies

Ryan Phillippe only likes making "serious" movies - Ryan Phillippe
Published by chereesofem

Ryan Phillippe only spends time away from his children to make "serious" movies.

The handsome actor - whose estranged wife Reese Witherspoon achieved global fame as ditzy Elle Woods in the 'Legally Blonde' movies - isn't interested in starring in "fun" films, because it's more important for him to be a good dad.

Ryan told BANG Showbiz: "I like making movies that make people think. I like making movies that push buttons, or make people uncomfortable, or question the world around them.

"That is something that is satisfying to me when I choose to take time away from my children to dedicate myself to work.

"I enjoy watching fun movies but if I put my time and focus into a project I like it to resonate and to mean something.

"I think the best art challenges people and that's exciting to me."

Ryan, 32, and Reese, 31, have two children - seven-year-old daughter Ava and three-year-old son Deacon.

Reese filed for divorce last November after seven years of marriage and is seeking joint legal custody and sole physical custody of the children.

In his latest movie 'Breach', which is based on a true story, Ryan plays a young FBI agent who is set the task of bringing down double agent Robert Hanssen, played by Chris Cooper.

Hanssen sold vital US security secrets to the Russian KGB during the Cold War.

Ryan admits he loved making the movie because it fulfilled his filmmaking goals.

He said: "I think with this movie we tell a story that people already know the end to and still manage to maintain the suspense and that's pretty brilliant.

"This film is really un-Hollywood and so it's cool that Universal made it. There are no gimmicks, it's a really real raw drama and that appealed to me."
