The stars are gathering for Nelson Mandela's second AIDS benefit concert in South Africa. More artists arrived on Friday at the concert venue, which once again takes the name 46664, a reference to Mandela's prison number during his incarceration in apartheid-era South Africa. The theme for the evening, hosted by Will Smith, will be AIDS prevention, especially for woman and young girls who are 6 times more likely than men in South Africa to be sufferers, a country where more than 600 people die from the disease each day. Acts confirmed, range from Annie Lennox to The Rock group Queen, whose former lead singer, Freddie Mercury, died of AIDS. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the benefit. |
