Amy Winehouse storms the BRITS - Amy Winehouse
Published by sarahsofem

Amy Winehouse stole the show at last night's BRIT Awards (20.02.08).

The troubled star wowed the crowd at London's Earl's Court with her first live performance since leaving rehab, singing 'Valerie' with Best British Male winner Mark Ronson. She then took to the stage alone for an emotional rendition of 'Love Is A Losing Game', during which she mouthed "I love you" to the camera in tribute to her imprisoned husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

The big winners on the night - which was hosted by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne - were Arctic Monkeys and Take That, who both walked off with two prizes. Take That took home Best British Live Act and Best British Single for their hit 'Shine', but lost out to Arctic Monkeys in the Best British Group and Best British Album categories. The Sheffield fourpiece, who came dressed as country gentlemen, collected the Best British Album prize for 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' - the second year running they have won the accolade.

Mika, who opened the show by belting out his hit 'Grace Kelly', was named British Breakthrough Act. Kylie Minogue, who performed her latest single 'Wow', picked up Best International Female. Kate Nash was the surprise winner of Best British Female, fighting off stiff competition from former 'X Factor' winner Leona Lewis.

US rockers Foo Fighters were named Best International Group, while their album 'Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace' triumphed in the International Album category. Both awards were accepted by frontman Dave Grohl via a video message from the US, with Kanye West collecting his award for Best International Male in the same fashion.

The final trophy of the night went to The Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney, who picked up the Outstanding Contribution award. He closed the show with a brilliant set which included his recent solo hit 'Dance Tonight', The Wings' classic 'Live and Let Die' and an emotional rendition of Beatles classic 'Hey Jude'.
