Rihanna has banned umbrellas from her UK tour.
The 20-year-old star has insisted the item be confiscated from fans, in case they injure themselves trying to copy the dance routine to her hit song ‘Umbrella’.
Andy McDonald, a security guard at the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre, where Rihanna performed on Monday (03.03.08), said: “We were taking precautions over a potential accident. We were told Rihanna’s song features dancing with umbrellas on stage. We didn’t want the crowd following her actions and someone getting their eye poked out.”
The decision follows reports of several injuries caused by umbrella-related incidents during Rihanna’s recent European dates.
One fan due to attend one of the singer’s upcoming shows said: “I was really looking forward to whipping out my umbrella during the song. I have been practising the routine for weeks but it has all been for nothing.”
Rihanna will perform at the Liverpool Echo Arena tonight (05.03.08) before moving on to Bournemouth’s Windsor Hall tomorrow (06.03.08).
Her final UK date will be at London’s O2 arena on Friday (07.03.08).
Meanwhile, Rihanna and Chris Brown have been seen kissing "passionately". The 'Umbrella' star and the 18-year-old R'n'B singer were spotted getting hot and steamy at a Paris Fashion Week party for photographer Peter Beard last weekend.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: "Chris and Rihanna were aware of people watching them but couldn't keep their hands off each other. It was a very sexy public display of affection.
"By the end of the evening they were kissing passionately and Rihanna was lying in his arms. If people weren't sure they were going out before they certainly knew afterwards."
Rumours the pair are dating first surfaced last month when they were seen smooching at Rihanna's surprise 20th birthday party at Los Angeles nightclub Les Deux. Just a week later, they were seen hugging in a swimming pool in Jamaica during a sun-drenched break.
However, Rihanna recently denied the pair are together, insisting: "Rumours come with the territory and you can't help these things. I'm single. If a good guy comes along we'll make it work, but for now I'm having fun being a single woman." |
