Bob Geldof, has confirmed that there will be five Live 8, concerts around teh world on July 2nd, in London, Philadelphia, Paris, Rome and Berlin. Already, several stars have agreed to perform at the free concerts, including Madonna and Paul McCartney in London, while Stevie Wonder, Will Smith, Bon Jovi and Maroon 5 will perform in the U.S. Duran Duran will be on stage in Rome, and A-ha will perform in Berlin. In a press conference held on Tuesday, Geldof said the event was "not for charity but political justice." Geldof also told reporters in London that he had asked for the support of Pope Benedict XVI. "I think he should turn up. It would be his first gig," he said. The former Boomtown Rat was behind the original Live Aid concert in 1985, and to date he has raised more than £73 million to fight hunger in Africa. |
