| Actress Anne Bancroft, who played the seductive mother Mrs. Robinson in the 1967 classic The Graduate has died of cancer at the age of 73. Bancroft was married twice, the second time to actor/director Mel Brooks, and won an Oscar in 1962 for the film The Miracle Worker. She also earned four nominations for Best Actress for the films The Pumpkin Eater (1967), The Graduate (1967), The Turning Point (1977) and Agnes the God (1985). Born in 1931 in the Bronx, New York, Bancroft began her film career in 1952 in Don't Bother to Knock. She was seen recently in the film Keeping the Faith and also in the television series Curb Your Enthusiasm, where she played herself. |
