Sugababes BRITs boycott

Sugababes BRITs boycott - Sugababes
Published by Bang

The Sugababes - Amelle Berrabah, Keisha Buchanan and Heidi Range - are threatening to boycott next year's BRIT Awards, unless they are recognised for their achievements at the ceremony.

The Sugababes are threatening to boycott next year's BRIT Awards.
The British pop trio are furious they have been continually snubbed by the ceremony - which celebrates the best of UK music - despite having six UK number one singles, selling 5.5 million albums in 10 years and breaking two Guinness world records.
Singer Amelle Berrabah said: "I'm telling you, if they don't nominate us this year, that's it, I'm done. I'm not going. They should sack all those old men on the board and leave it to the fans to decide. They don't know what they are talking about.
"Our song 'About You Now' sold almost as many singles as Rihanna's 'Umbrella' - yet she was up on-stage and we got no recognition."
The 24-year-old star - who makes up the group along with Keisha Buchanan and Heidi Range - is so angry about the band's lack of recognition she has even started dreaming about it.
She said: "I had a dream the band had been going for 17 years and we turned up at the BRITs and they said, 'Sorry you've lost again'. I'm that angry I say, 'F*** off, that's not what I'm here for', kiss Heidi and Keisha bye and walk out."
The Sugababes have received one BRIT - for Best Dance Act, a category which no longer exists, in 2003 - but claim the accolade is of little importance as they do not classify themselves as a dance group.
Keisha, the only remaining original member, finds it difficult to comprehend British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was prepared to meet them, yet the biggest British music awards show continually snubs them.
She told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I say this in the most humble way but when you think of pop bands the Sugababes are definitely up there. I'm proud that Gordon Brown is recognising us, but why not the BRITs? We're British for God's sake and we've done well.
"Surely we deserve an award after all the hard work we've done?"
Next year's ceremony will be hosted by Kylie Minogue and 'Gavin and Stacey' actors James Corden and Mathew Horne and will take place in February at Earl's Court in London.
