While no explanation for the name was offered following the couple's announcement, one website specialising in the origins of names says Seraphina is derived from the biblical word 'seraphim' - which is Hebrew in origin - meaning 'fiery ones'.
Ben and Jennifer have already shown they are fans of flower-themed girls' names.
Seraphina Rose Elizabeth - who was born in Los Angeles on January 6 - will be little sister to the couple's other daughter, three-year-old Violet.
Jennifer, 36, has previously spoken of her love of motherhood and Ben's excellent parenting skills.
The '13 Going On 30' actress said: "You know how as a kid you picture yourself with a tall, handsome husband, and you imagine him cuddling your baby? Ben is like that.
"Violet prefers him to anyone. He's a teddy bear of a guy. Nothing makes me happier than to see the two of them together and her little hands on his face. He has a prevailing calm." |
