Gwyneth Paltrow says experiencing hard times, such as the death of her father, has made her a tougher person.
Gwyneth Paltrow is happy to suffer as it brings her closer to "spirituality".
The 36-year-old actress insists going through painful experiences - such as the death of her father, Bruce Paltrow, in 2002 - have made her a stronger person.
She said: "The harder things in my life have taught me that you mustn't fear for your suffering - it gets rid of negativity and brings you closer to spirituality.
"In my early twenties, I was asked what my biggest fear was and I said, 'My father dying.' So when it actually happened, it was very tough. It's still tough now, but that's taught me that to fear something is a real waste of energy because everything happens for a reason."
The 'Two Lovers' actress - who has two children with husband Chris Martin - wishes she hadn't wasted so much energy feeling upset about a past relationship.
She said: "I worried about my private life when I was much younger and I was involved with somebody. They weren't married but they were into drugs and they could never show up, and I was obsessed with why that person wasn't showing up.
"I got caught into thinking, 'What is wrong with me? Why isn't this turning out?' " |
