Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks for a role in the suspense drama The Blood Diamond, by Warner Bros. Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai) who co-wrote the script with Marshall Herskovitz, is set to direct the project. This African adventure takes place in Sierra Leone in 1999, when the nation was in the midst of a raging civil war. DiCaprio plays the part of a precious jewel smuggler, who finances the terrorists, rebels, and pirates. When the smuggler meets a native farmer whose son disappeared with an army of young children, their destinies become tied. The studio would like to start filming next year, to give DiCaprio time to work on another of their projects, For Whom the Bell Tolls. DiCaprio is presently filming the Martin Scorcese film, The Departed. |
