Justin Timberlake has accepted substantial damages from the News of the World, after they printed an untrue story last summer, claiming the star had cheated on partner Cameron Diaz with an unknown model.
The paper admitted to the High Court in London on Wednesday to lying in an article which was published in July 2004, claiming that he had cheated on fiancée Cameron Diaz with model Lucy Clarkson. The singer started legal proceedings a year ago, after the tabloid refused to retract the story.
The paper will now publish a public apology and pay damages to Timberlake, after accepting that the allegations are unfounded. Miss Clarkson was also made to apologise for distress caused to Timberlake and Diaz, and to pay him the money she earnt from selling the story after legally accepting that her claims were untrue. Timberlake plans to donate the proceeds to charity. |
