Canadian singing star Céline Dion has given a million dollars to the American Red Cross to help in the relief effort for Hurricane Katrina.
Dion is not the only celeb to have generously donated to the cause, comedian Ellen DeGeneres, a New Orleans native, has started a foundation for victims of the hurricane with the help of her television show, and Hollywood heavyweights Robert De Niro, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tim McGraw Harry Connick Jr and Angelina Jolie are all taking part in a telethon to be aired on NBC in the States. MTV has also announced that it will be holding a benefit event to raise money for the victims of the hurricane, which hit Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.
