Nicolas Cage revealed that he is disappointed to be an American citizen, which he feels makes him unable to play the role of James Bond. According to IOL, Cage thought that the producers of the upcoming Bond film were insisting on casting a Brit for the lead role. Cage said, "You can cast a Brit to play Bond but you can never cast an American to play him." Apparently Cage was in the running for the role, which was later given to Daniel Craig. The last actor to play Bond was Pierce Brosnan, who was reportedly bitterly disappointed when he was dropped from the lucrative role. Filming for the next movie of the series, Casino Royale, begins in January.
"I think that is totally unfair," he said.
