Up until yesterday I didn't even like popcorn, horrible tasteless stuff that get stuck in my gums at cinemas. It costs a ridiculous amount and you have to queue for it?! Blah!
I've just had a Veruka Salt moment...
Like the famous gum chewing girl with her chewing gum meal at Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, I experienced similar food heaven at the Joe & Sephs stand at Taste of London Festival.
Joe & Seph's sell incredible gourmet popcorn unlike any popcorn you will have ever tasted.
Using a secret coating recipe, Joe & Seph's have created air popped corn which release up to three different flavours as you eat them.
The most impressive of these is smooth caramel, followed by black pepper, followed by chilli. Seriously.
It's utterly incredible.
The goats cheese & black pepper one is sublime, the mature Irish cheddar one so cheesy it could be popped on top of a cracker or dipped in Chutney. Yum!
Fortunately for us London dwellers, Joe & Seph's have launched in Selfridges and Harrods, plus they have a shop in Brent Cross. You can check the stockists list for other regional stockists
For everyone else, don't despair, you can get your hands on this utterly marvellous pop corn from the internet. The website offers 3x 100g pouches of popcorn perfection for just £12.
On another popcorn note, I headed over to the Waitrose's Secret Garden where I came across Heston's Salty Caramel Popcorn Ice Cream (£2.75 for 300ml). Another popcorny
I watched the Heston's Mission Impossible where he tried to introduce this delicious stuff to cinema chain Cineworld. My local cinema is, unfortunately, one of these dreary places and I can attest that the food (if you can call it that) on offer is despicable.
Oh for Salty Caramel Popcorn Ice Cream instead of stale hot dogs and "Nachos".
There's a chocolate and rosemary flavour and a savoury mustard ice cream which is lovely with a little smoked salmon. Now that would be cinema snack worth queuing for!
Really this stuff is sublime!
I'm converted. I'm a popcorn fan.
Popcorn is one of the best low-fat diet snacks... providing you don't turn it into ice cream or luxury caramel coated gorgeousness.
